Abstract
A thermomechanical powder processing was adapted to produce a bulk nanocrystalline TiAl based alloy. Fabrication of specimens was carried out in the manner of mixing of elemental powders, reactive sintering, severe plastic straining by cold rolling and final vacuum hot pressing. We have found that this processing is very effective to produce a sound TiAl-Mn alloy with a nano-scaled microstructure. The average grain size was measured to 500 nm. Hardness was evaluated to about 5GPa.
