Abstract

The need for a potential alternate carbon source to petroleum and the environmental concern about increasing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere led to an increasing interest to synthesise polymer using CO2. In a recent study directed toward the effective utilization of CO2, a novel catalytic reaction has been found for the synthesis of alkyl alkynoates from 1-alkynes, CO2, and alkyl halides mediated by copper (I) salt in the presence of K2CO3. This paper reports a convenient synthesis of poly(alkyl alkynoates) from CO2 applying this method.
