Abstract

Recycling is one of the key terms in maintaining sustainable development. All substances should be recycled as long as no energy is consumed in the recycling process. From an engineering point of view complete separation of materials cannot be achieved. Although an essential concept of recycling is completely different from waste treatments, recycling has recently been done with waste treatments. Social system for recycling, therefore, has been more important as their technologies. The present state of recycling of base metals and rare metals in Japan is briefly reviewed with present technologies. Also a new concept "Artificial Mineral Deposit" was introduced. This concept (Reserve to Stock) proposes a kind of paradigm change. It is the concept of beginning to deal with some recycling metals like common ore resources, which have been treated as waste.
