Abstract

The propagation characteristics of surface acoustic waves (SAW) on La3Ga5SiO14 were investigated by both numerical and experimental methods. The SAW velocity, the coupling coefficient (k2) and the temperature coefficient of delay (TCD) on X-cut, Y-cut and 50° rotated Y-cut substrates were investigated numerically. Then SAW properties were measured using transversal filters of different propagation directions on these cuts. The experimental results of the SAW velocity and the k2 were in good agreement with the numerical results. However, except for some cuts, TCD in experiment differed from that of numerical calculations. The propagation direction and the electrode thickness dependence of the turnover temperature was investigated on the 50° rotated Y-cut substrate.
