N2 - Tetrasomic inheritance was documented for four allozyme loci (Aat-2, Aco-2, Pgi-2, and 6pg-2) in a rare endangered plant, Aster kantoensis (Asteraceae). There was no evidence of chromatid segregation, and segregation ratios at the loci were in close agreement with the expectation of tetrasomic inheritance of the chromosome type. This study provides evidence for the autotetraploid origin of A. kantoensis and is one of several studies that have contributed to an increased appreciation of autotetraploidy.
