Abstract

Texture and elastic anisotropy in cold-rolled and heat treated plates of Ti-23Nb-2Zr-0.7Ta-1.2O Gum Metal were investigated. The Ti-23Nb-2Zr-0.7Ta-1.2O alloy was fabricated by an Ar-arc melting method and then homogenized at 1273 K for 7.2 ks in vacuum. The ingot was cold rolled with a reduction up to 98.5% in thickness. The as-rolled plates were heat treated at 873 K for 0.6ks and 1173 K for 3.6 ks, respectively. Very strong {001}<110> texture was obtained in the as-rolled specimen and the specimen heat treated at 873 K for 0.6 ks. In the specimen heat treated at 1173 K for 3.6 ks, a recrystallization texture of {112}<110> was obtained. Anisotropy in elastic behavior was observed in both specimens heat treated at 873 K and 1173 K. Young's modulus along the rolling direction was 53 GPa in both specimens. The minimum Young's modulus was obtained in the specimen heat treated at 873 K when loaded along 45° from the rolling direction.
