Abstract
Ni/NiO covered structure as negative electrode for Li ion storage device with both high energy and high power densities is reported. Nanocrystalline and mesoporous NiO film was formed on the nickel mesh, knitted of nickel micron-wires, via self-template method. The frameworks of the nickel mesh and mesopores of NiO film filled with electrolyte provide ideal electrolyte and lithium ion paths. The nickel wires with low resistivity play a role of electronic path. Moreover, the high surface area of the NiO film reduces the required diffusion length in the active materials and the effective specific current density. The resultant NiO negative electrode indicates the high specific capacities (695 mAh/g) at high current densities (10 A/g).
