Abstract

The structure of the interfaces between a f.c.c. matrix and b.c.c. precipitates, across which a Kurdjumov-Sachs orientation relationship holds, was examined in a NM5 mass% Cr alloy. Intruder matrix dislocations, whose Burgers vector is not parallel to the (11 l)fc c//(l 10)b c cinterface, were found to create new growth ledges. These dislocations can accommodate the misfit between the interplanar spacings of close-packed planes parallel to each other.
