Abstract

The nucleation field in a system with a planar magnetic defect in uniaxial ferromagnetic host matrices has been evaluated by taking both the first and the second anisotropy constants, K1 and K2, into account. In the case where the nonlinearity of the micromagnetic equation acts on the nucleation process, the inhomogeneous nucleation field is increased due to the K2 term, even though K1 > 4K2 holds. The effects of carting of the magnetization due to K1 < 4K2 has also been discussed.
