Abstract

This study investigates the specific heat, thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of ZrO2-4mol% Y2O3 coating layers fabricated by electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) in the temperature range between room temperature to 1000°C. The laser flash method and differential scanning calorimeter are used to measure the thermal diffusivity and specific heat of the coated samples, respectively. EB-PVD coatings reveal the porous columnar microstructure. Coatings are found to contain nano sized pores as well as micron sized pores. The thermal conductivities and thermal diffusivities of EB-PVD coatings decreased with increasing measuring temperature.
