Abstract

Titanium oxycarbide was synthesized through carbothermic reduction of TiO2 and sintering of TiO and TiC. The combustion enthalpy and specific heat capacity of oxycarbide were measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The mixing enthalpy and Gibbs free energy of the reaction 0.5TiO + 0.5TiC = TiC 0.5O 0.5, consequently, was calculated based on the preceding measured data. The Gibbs free energy obtained was in good agreement with those results obtained by the equilibrium measurements.
