Abstract
We study the magnetic properties of the S = 1 quantum spin chains with bond-alternating interactions (antiferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic) at finite temperatures. The magnetization curve and the magnetic susceptibility for different values of the alternation are calculated. It is shown that the magnetization plateau is present even at finite temperatures.
