Abstract
A handmade system has been developed to measure the three dimensional (3-D) flow fields of breaking waves. The measurement is based on the stereoscopic high-speed photographing. Correlation methods are applied to identify entrained certain air bubbles, chosen as the tracers, taken in the photographs different in time as well as view point. Several techniques are introduced to increase the accuracy and stability of the measurement. Simultaneous use of two sets of the systems from side and bottom for breaking waves gives transition from 2-D to 3-D behavior together with the fields of velocity, vorticity and 2-D divergence.
