Abstract

The stress induced martensitic transformation is responsible for the high strength of partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ). In this study, conventionally sintered (CS) and hot-pressed (HP) PSZ compacts with 2. 5 mol% Y//2O//3 were annealed at various temperatures and transformation during cyclic annealing was investigated. In addition, bending was carried out for HP specimens. The mean vlue of transverse rupture strength of HP-PSZ was decreased by thermal cycles of 100 times up to 1553 K.
