Abstract

The transverse rupture strength of cemented carbides which were HIP treated and coated by the physical vapor depostion (PVD) process was investigated in relation to thickness (1. 5-5 mu m) of the deposited layer, Co content (5-20%) of the substrate and temperature (923-1273 K) of annealing after PVD at 773 K. Strength in the as-PVD state decreased with increasing thickness and Co content. A decrease was caused by annealing.
