Abstract

Shingled track writing realizes narrow track width recording. The write head can be much wider than the tracks written by shingled magnetic recording [1]. However the reader still has to be narrower than the written track width, which will be a technical challenge in the future. In this work, it is assumed that two adjacent narrow tracks are simultaneously read with a wide-track reader. A PRML channel is investigated in order to separately retrieve the data of the two tracks from the simultaneous parallel readback signal. The data transfer rate is expected to be doubled by the two-track reading.
