Abstract

Recently soliton transmission has come of age by means of EDFAs, and the transmission distance has reached the theoretical limit known as the Gordon-Haus limit. In this paper, soliton transmission control technique which enables ultralong distance soliton transmission is described. Soliton transmission control is realized by employing synchronous modulation which removes jitter, and an optical bandpass filter which stabilizes the soliton energy. One billion kilometer transmission experiment confirms the usefulness of this technique.
