Abstract
High speed submerged water-jets accompanied by cavitation are very useful for peening, cleaning, cutting and material tests. Such a jet-working-capacity closely depends on the cavitation around the jets, and the cavitation intensity is associated with the types of cavitation. In order to make clear the types of cavitation around the jets, we systematically observed the aspect of a submerged water-jet with cavitation by using a high speed video camera, whose maximum framing rate is 40500 frames per second. The digital images of the cross-sectional view of the jet taken by the video camera using a laser light sheet are stacked to a stereoscopic display by the digital image processing in order to examine the jet behaviour changing with time. The vortex-and cloud-cavitation around a submerged water-jet are stereoscopically displayed successfully.
