N2 - Sm3Se4 is a heavy fermion system with extremely low carriers at low temperatures and known to show a valence fluctuation due to thermal hopping at room temperature. We have studied its electronic structures by XPS, UPS, BIS and XAS spectroscopy and compared them with those in Sm4As3 which is a typical Kondo material.
