Recently, applications of virtual reality (VR) technologies to the neuroscience research for rodents have been attracting attention. However, since the conventional VR system for rodents does not have somatosensory feedback, it has not been thought that the immersiveness is sufficient. To overcome this problem, we have developed somatosensory display system for mice in the VR system. The system is composed of multiple-nozzle air-puff stimulator surrounding the mouse and an active spherical treadmill on which a pair of electromagnetic clutches and motors are mounted. By using the animal experiment, we confirmed that the somatosensory system worked well. For the next step, we will integrate the somatosensory display and the VR simulator.
