A method for the determination of reliable elastic constants of lotus-type porous (LTP) metals was studied. The measurement results were also compared with those from the effective-mean-field (EMF) theory. The measurements revealed that LTP magnesium exhibits elastic symmetry with the c-axis along the longitudinal direction of the pores. The results indicate that the EMF theory gives more accurate values in the high-porosity range, and can reproduce the power-law behavior.
