N2 - Wind tunnel experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of vegetation, in particular beach grass, on blown sand in terms of elevation changes of a mobile sand bed, distributions of mean wind velocity, and wind fields for various vegetation canopies, and also displacement amplitude and frequency of vegetation leaf sway in a flexible vegetation canopy. The sways of leaves increase the air turbulence within and above a canopy of flexible vegetation, which creates a complicated interaction between the mean wind velocity and the air turbulence. The frequency of sway of vegetation leaf becomes larger where the bed is accumulated and the streaklines fluctuate. These results indicate that the frequency of the sway increases the air turbulence and reduces the mean wind velocity, and consequently the bed is accumulated.
