The increase in the area of abandoned cultivated land is serious problem in Japan. The abandoned cultivated land has been investigated from 1975 in Japan. In northern Japan, Tohoku district, its increasing has been remarkable since mid-1990s. The increases in the area of abandoned cultivated land damage the scenery of rural village, birds and animals of hiding space and food crops production system. It is related with the Japan's food self-sufficiency. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate the area of abandoned cultivated land. In this study, we attempt to detect abandoned cultivated land using satellite remote sensing imageries. Multi-temporal data set is used to increase accuracy of detection.
