It is well known that complex multicellular process of tissue development and regeneration is generally regulated by the spatial arrangement of matrix and signal molecules in a time- and concentration-dependent manner. Based on the natural morphogenic process, various cell scaffolds of three-dimension have been designed to mimic the natural extracellular microenvironments that enable cells to regulate tissue regeneration. In this study, a polyacrylamide hydrogel scaffold with a spatial gradient of functional group has been explored to investigate the adhesion and proliferation of fibroblasts on the scaffold.
