Superior mesenteric vein (SMV) injury after blunt trauma is very rare but frequently life-threatening. A 47-year-old man was admitted to our hospital after his abdomen was kicked. Computed Tomography (CT) showed a disruption of the main root of the SMV. Emergency laparotomy revealed a complete disruption of the SMV at 2cm before the site of confluence with the splenic vein and reconstruction was done. At 6-months follow-up he survived with no complaints.
