A thin-film photodiode for standing-wave detection and interferometry applications is presented. The active layer of the photodiode is thinner than the incident-light wavelength. The transparency of the sensor allows the detection of a fraction of the incident photon, while the rest of the optical intensity is transmitted without absorption. The photodiode exhibits high spatial resolution in its thickness direction and allows the counterpropagating beams to function as the interference signals.
