Pure single crystals of glycine lithium sulphate (GLS) were irradiated at room temperature with 100 MeV silver ions at fluences varying from 1010 to1012 ions/cm2 from the 15 UD Pelletron facility at Inter University Accelerator Center (IUAC), New Delhi. The virgin as well as irradiated GLS single crystals were characterized by photoluminescence at room temperature under 2.55 eV blue excitation and UV-Vis absorption to study the radiation induced defects. The ion-induced changes have also been studied with respect to their mechanical response using Vicker's micro hardness technique. The structural changes were analyzed by means of powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The effect of swift heavy ion beam on dielectric dispersion is explained in detail.
