Understandings for regional characteristics of agriculture using terra/aster data

    At Asian Monsoon area, it is difficult to get information of rice growth using optical sensors by clouds. SAR sensor is powerful at all weather condition and recently new satellites were launched such as ALOS/PALSAR , TerrraSAR-X and RADARSAT-2. They have high resolution and full polarimetory ability. We study detection of rice crop at paddy field in Japan using manly RADARSAT-2 data. The area of rice crop at paddy field is well extracted by RADARSAT-2 data.
